Project of relieving our US troops from Iraq


Introduction

After the successful rate of organ transplantation has been announced, it has become the choice for many people with end-stage organ failure. Consequently, a need of donated organs has increased. Nevertheless, the number of organs available for transplant hardly meets the requirements.

"As of March 2004, almost 85,000 individuals await a life-saving organ, and nearly 27% of these individuals are African-American."
I believe that organ donation is a personal and human deed, not just simply a medical procedure. This deed has touched human beings and created a new outlook for our community as well as on humanity. Furthermore, I consider what becomes common to our community and to the uncommon generosity of human soul is to raise personal concern and to help others in the need of life-saving by our ultimate gesture of humanity, the gift of life. I think that organ donors have leaved an extraordinary legacy. These good deeds impact on others, expanding their circles of life.

However, there are negative attitudes towards organ donation. Many African American and Mexicans are aggressively against organ transplantation. Strident public arguments about organ transplantation have been contributed to low donation rate.


Afterlife beliefs

Religious beliefs have caused that individuals should keep their body intact for their afterlives. Mutilation has caused a fear of individuals' perceptions about the important concerns of their spirituality, associated with their willingness to be deceased donors. Many African Americans would like to resurrect that by speaking of death, they would help bring the death to fruition. In fact, religious beliefs have impacted strongly on decision making about donation, especially among African Americans.

Although some have believed in ones’ whole body are needed afterlife, others might think that the body should be served for its purpose on Earth, then afterward only a spiritual body. The positive impacts which spiritual beliefs might have could hold a discussion of fears of body desecration. The desire to help others should be prominently stood out, since religious viewpoints have shaped the perception on organ donations in African-American community.

I believe that the barriers to donation decision making, in fact, cause low donation rates among African Americans. Some support donation; others have negative attitudes towards donation. Understanding and sharing supportive attitudes toward organ donation among the African American community will help for the growth of effective information and help contribute to support positive attitudes towards organ donations.


Allegiance to community

I wonder how individuals experience with organ donation and respond to some level of exposure to organ donation through family members, friends, and colleagues who are in the need of receiving organs. Many African-Americans might feel and may be manifested in the desire to help others in their community, due to the societal and medical conditions.
Some people even want to make sure that their organs should go to someone black. They might be aware of the shortage of organs available with the needs of a large number of African-American who are waiting for transplants. Thus, many feel obligated and personal responsibility to help and provide organs to the African American neighbors.

The allegiance to the African-American community has cause many desires to help their family members. The value of helping family members is also an important response of respondents' desire to help others. In fact, many individuals are willing to be a living donor for their family members. Although many people might hold negative attitudes towards donation, they are willing to donate their organs to their family members.

Many negative beliefs have been discussed and raised concerns of races as well as social classes in the system. On the other hand, many individuals have expressed motives for donation. The desire to help others and to feel good when helping others can motivate for the agreement to serve as a donor. Some even believe that their souls can be resting someplace, and let their bodies help someone.


Christian beliefs

In my opinion, to the African-Americans the church is the essential hub of the community. As a result, in order to successfully convey a sensitive message in African-American community, such as organ donation, individuals should go through the black churches. Churches become a beginning to entire congregation to stay healthy, not just the souls.
Sharing the facts and feeling good that we are able to help, once the African-Americans are aware of the donation issue and well presented with the option of organ donation. In fact, the parishioners have known some individuals who have been recipients; but not many parishioners might have known someone who has become donors. The pastors should know about the spiritual belief of organ donation, the highest level of generosity which a human being can achieve. This is considered the ultimate giving.

A common Christian belief is that living a Christian life is based on the principle of being a blessing to others. I believe that donate organs ultimately sacrifice that Christ has made for mankind. As a result, the overall interest in donation is originated from their Christian values. Donation might be a way to bless someone else.

Many people have believed that a blessing to others becomes in line with the will of God. As a result, the Lord will meet the needs of anyone who has been willing to give, to donate, and to sacrifice.


Cultural differences

There are barriers which have kept minorities, especially African American and Mexican community, away from donating. The biggest problem is transcended by cultures. Each ethic group has different norms and unique issues. For example, Latinos can hardly be accessible to health care, since they usually do not have frequent contact with the medical community. Thus, donor activists could be perceived somewhat suspicious.
I believe that every day, someone's mother, father, sister, daughter, son or friend dies, since they cannot find a compatible organ in time. Nevertheless, by simply registering and becoming an organ donor, every day we can save someone whom we have loved dearly and even help overcome obstacles.

"In addition, the number of transplant candidates continues to exceed the number of available donors, and the donor shortage is not expected to improve."
If each individual can be aware of the great impact which they could have by becoming organ donors, I strongly believe that there will be a much greater benefit for those, who are now waiting desperately to receive donated organs.

Social-spiritual factors aside, I believe in medical distrust as another major reason for lower donation rates in the African-American community. As a result, lower donation rates have happened among the African Americans. Mistrusts are followed by religious issues and unfamiliarity with organ donation as one of the main reasons for anti-donation.


Solutions

I am confident that numbers could talk and help express the need of donation issue:
"With more African Americans than ever on the waiting list for an organ transplant, a new survey finds that half (49%) of African Americans want their organs donated upon death, and most (80%) consider saving lives the top reason for becoming an organ donor. But more than half of them (56%) have not talked to their families about it - a key step to becoming an organ donor."

Option 1: Educate community
To raise awareness about organ donation, the press should initiate open discussions and provide statistical information about how organ donate program has saved people's lives. The press should have more stories about patients who have suffered from rare disease, which can lead to organ failure.
Since more people can access statistical data, including the facts that individual healthy donor can help as many people, individuals can understand and sympathize how donations could help society. Furthermore, the information can help change negative perceptions about organ donors. Since organ donation is a very personal decision, learning from the facts and the numbers could help people make up their own decisions.

Option 2: Religious influences
Religious value has become a sense of blessing to others, fulfilled the God's will and believed in the physical body in their afterlife. Society should recognize that increased rates of organ donation are goals to improve end-of-life care. Despite endlessly efforts of private as well as governmental entities, we should continue to find ways to reach better goals.
The quality of care should be received by dying patients and their families with donation rates can suggest that there is still room for the improvement. Thus, personal value has been articulated and included the desire to help others, family generosity, and an obligation to the African-American community. Furthermore, since God has created our body, thus it is His. Our obligations are to put it to good use.

Option 3: Cultural education
An individual's performance can be evaluated by assessment criteria. The surrounding environment of critical care can be taken into consideration.
"The myths and misconceptions that are out there for the general public are even more pronounced in the Latino community. 'The word-of- mouth in the Latino community carries a lot of weight.'
Specific targets should be included in conjunction with care, support, social recognition, and reward for making explicit transitions in goals of care and families' understanding of the decision making process. Additionally, effective interference to support patients should be relieved with the burden of grieving process. Any plan for contributing donation procedures should be included comprehensive educational strategies for recognizing aspects of contributing in critical care improvement.
Among the general population, willingness to become an organ donor should be encouraged. The presence of a living will has become a predictor of willingness to donate. Organ donation should be discussed in advance in term of care planning, which helps represent an opportunity to increase donation among African American, and Hispanic community. The impact of advance health care planning can become an opportunity to discuss advantages of organ donation, and thus might help increase the availability of organs for donation.
Providing tools for skill development and cultural education should contribute to a large measure to the creation of the culture of the intensive care. Priority on the continuity should meet the expectations, which can be included with the meeting with patients' families as well as criteria of the environment that help direct behaviors in those communities.
