Cain Murders His Brother


It seems to be the ordinary Bible story about the power of desire and helplessness of human beings before the face of jealousy. Beginning with ordinary words "Adam made love to his wife Eve"(Genesis 4:1) the story doesn’t leave us a bit chance to think it implies something significant for the whole Book. But was it sole helplessness or something more harsh hides beneath the mask of it? Something that nowadays we call inhumanity, cruelty or just crime. But then it was named just a sin, the Greatest Sin. What if all Cain's helplessness is just a blanket covering something more terrifying, something more terrible? 'Cause we are not able to get to know what he felt, or if he simply was sorry for his actions. Did he realize precisely what he had done?

What kind of man was Cain? To my opinion he was just weak, weak to overcome hardship, to solve the problem, which arose in his soul. But God quickly realized what had happened to Cain's soul, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?"(Genesis 4:6-7). Saying the statement, God emphasizes that angriness is one of those feelings, which must be always rid of. But Cain… Cain just didn't realize that at the moment. He was too weak to deal with his mind, to overcome a stress. And he just decided that the source of that stress was his brother Abel. He wasn't able to find common language with his brother, and rather than overcome the problem he destroyed it.

But was there a problem at all? Maybe he was just mentally thick, or he just praised The God in his own way and was waiting permanent praise as well. Then the problem was because of a large number of faith in Cain's soul, since God was so authoritative in his eyes…

I think it was just another God's test (not to look with favor at Cain's offering) of human beings like the test with the Tree of the Knowledge. And Cain didn't pass it as well as Eve hadn't. But more terrible thing is that Cain didn't even repent but just answered carelessly, "'I don't know (where his brother was after he had murdered him)', he replied. 'Am I my brother's keeper?'"(Genesis 4:9). After such a statement God simply couldn’t not to curse him.

Cain did what he did and God did what he did. And who can blame either Cain or God for anything? 'Cause Being Adam and Eve's descendants, we're all weak in our desires, our jealousy. We're all bad-natured from the very beginning of our life. And how can we find anybody guilty of their deeds, as long as we're all come out of the same seed, we have the same forefathers? Lots of contradictions may arise arguing on that problem. But the only thing is quite clear: if even God wasn't able to create us perfectly how can we seek for ideality within ourselves? Cause a small part of Cain exists within everybody of our kind… We're just imperfect human beings.
