Understanding Those Who Live in the World of Silence

Understanding Those Who Live in the World of Silence

Reading Tom Humphries and Carol Padden's bestseller "Deaf in America" was more than a leisure read or a worthwhile activity to while away my time. Deaf in America, in fact, not only opened my eyes and ears to a world different from my own, but actually led me to a deeper understanding and respect for those who live in the world of complete silence.

Because the book was written by authors who are themselves deaf, it provided me a more accurate and deeper perspective on how it is to be deaf. It was like being in the shoes of a person who could not hear.

From the book, I learned to respect the capability and great potential of not only deaf people but also those with other forms of handicap. I learned that communication in fact should not be viewed as a major hindrance because they have their own language, their own culture; language or sign language and culture which can be shared not only with fellow deaf people but with others as well.

Also, the book gave a peek on how the deaf view and interact with people outside. This has prompted me to be more careful and sensitive when dealing with deaf people.

In America alone, there is an estimated 28.8 million people who are deaf. I have met some of them. As I go through life, I am pretty sure that I will be meeting more of them. I will meet them in the neighborhood, in schools, in church, at work or even in the grocery stores. And the next time I meet a deaf person, I know that he or she is no different from me or from everybody else. I will keep in mind that this individual is capable of living independently and possess talents and skills to be productive as much as everybody else. With this deep respect and understanding, I am sure that they can be my neighbors, my colleagues, my soul mate and my life-long friends.

Best Custom Writing Sites

Sites that provide custom writing services are better alternative to downloading pre-written paper samples, especially if you temporarily can't handle writing your own paper for some reason, and can not afford risking your course and reputation for plagiarism detection failure. The prices for custom written essays are affordable, but if you need 15-pages long master level report overnight, you better prepare to spend a noticeable sum.
